I’ve written before about my 85 year old neighbor here in Melbourne Florida. She is an incredible woman, tough as nails, with a heart of gold. She’s incredibly feisty and I love that about her.
Yesterday, she told me that a couple came to her door the other day and asked her if she wanted her bushes trimmed. She thought it was time, so decided to go ahead and let them do it for her.
When it was time to pay the workers, they invited themselves into her home. As she began to pay them (I never asked her how much they charged her) they began asking her if she lived alone or if she had any family around. They began asking her if she was interested in selling specific items in her home. And, they persisted. She became very uncomfortable and was finally able to get them out of her house. They told her that they would be back soon.
She knew after she had let them in, that she had made a mistake. We discussed the situation at length. I told her she should never let a stranger that knocks at her door do any work for her. And I reminded her to never let anyone in her house, that she didn’t know. I told her that if they came back again, to not answer the door and call the police.
Today, we must be so careful who we are dealing with and who we are letting in our homes!
